Delete your Bonito Hub account

How account deletion works on Bonito Hub. Confirmation is required, and your data is anonymized immediately.

You can delete your Bonito Hub account at any time. Deletion is permanent and takes effect immediately — there is no grace period to recover the account.

Before you delete

A few things to think about, in order of how often they cause regret:

  • Organizations you OWN. You can't delete your account while you're the OWNER of an organization. You need to either transfer ownership to another member first, or soft-delete the organization from its settings.

  • Organizations you're a member of. Your membership in these organizations is removed when your account is deleted. The organizations themselves are not affected, but other members will see you disappear from their member lists.

  • Content you've submitted. Material you or your organization submitted may continue to appear in things Bonito has already published — newsletters, reports, case studies, or content on bonito.football covered by the publishing certificate. That's described in our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. We don't use your content in new public communications after deletion, except where retention is required by law.

How to delete

  1. Optionally, share a reason for leaving. It helps us improve Bonito Hub but is never required.

  2. Submit. We send a confirmation email to your primary email address.

  3. Open the email and click the confirmation link.

  4. On the confirmation page, follow the final confirmation steps.

  5. Submit. Your account is anonymized immediately.

You'll land on a confirmation page and you'll be signed out across all devices.

What happens to your data

When you delete your account, your personal data is immediately anonymized. We replace identifying fields with non-identifying values rather than holding the data pending deletion.

Concretely:

  • Your name, email, profile picture, location, headline, and other profile fields are removed or anonymized.

  • Your LinkedIn-verified data, additional emails, sessions, sign-in tokens, and email-change logs are deleted.

  • Your newsletter subscription is canceled

  • Security event logs are retained but with personal fields (IP address, user agent) nulled, for legitimate-interest security monitoring.

Backups are purged on a rolling 30-day cycle, so any residual data in backups is automatically removed within that window.

What's kept, and why

A small set of records may be retained where the law requires it or for the legitimate interest of operating Bonito Hub safely:

  • Donor records are kept by our payment provider for 7 years under Swedish accounting law.

  • Editorial content republished on bonito.football under our publishing certificate (utgivningsbevis) is retained as required by Swedish constitutional media law. The Privacy Policy explains what this means for your rights.

  • Aggregated, non-identifying records for security and statistical purposes.

For a complete list of retention periods, see Section 11 of our Privacy Policy.

After deletion

  • You can sign up again later with the same email address if you want to — your old account isn't blocking it.

  • We don't restore old data when you sign up again. A new sign-up is a new account.

  • If you have questions about your data after deletion, or you'd like to formally exercise any of your GDPR rights, contact [email protected].
