Invite and manage members

How OWNERs and ADMINs invite new members, manage existing ones, and resolve common issues with invitations.

The members area of your organization (Organizations → [your organization] → Members) is where you add and manage the people associated with the organization on Bonito Hub. OWNERs and ADMINs have full access to this area; MEMBERs see the page but can't take actions.

Inviting a new member

  1. Go to your organization's Members page.

  2. Click Invite member.

  3. Enter the person's email address and pick the role — ADMIN or MEMBER.

  4. Send the invitation.

We send an email to the address with a link to accept. The invitation is valid for 7 days.

The OWNER role can't be assigned through invitation — it's reserved for the current OWNER and only moves through ownership transfer. See → Transfer ownership or leave an organization.

What the invitee needs to accept

Two requirements:

  • A Bonito Hub account, signed in. If they don't have one yet, they sign up using the same flow as everyone else — see → Create your account. Their account should use either:

    • the same email the invitation was sent to, or

    • have that email added as a verified additional email on their account. See → Add additional email addresses.

  • LinkedIn verification. Joining an organization requires LinkedIn verification on the invitee's side. If they don't have it, they'll see a prompt to verify before they can accept. See → Verify your LinkedIn identity.

If the email they signed up with doesn't match the invitation and they haven't added it as an additional email, the system will refuse to redeem — invitations are not transferable between accounts.

Tracking and managing invitations

On the Members page, the Pending invitations section lists every invitation that hasn't been accepted, declined, expired, or revoked. For each one, you can:

  • See the email it was sent to, the role offered, and the expiry date.

  • Remove (revoke) the invitation, which immediately invalidates the link.

  • Re-invite the same person if the invitation expired without acceptance — just send a new one.

The Bonito Hub account itself sends the invitation email — you don't need to copy and paste anything. If a recipient says they didn't get it, ask them to check their spam folder first; if it's truly missing, revoke and re-invite.

Promoting and demoting members

OWNERs and ADMINs can:

  • Promote a MEMBER to ADMIN to give them management permissions.

  • Demote an ADMIN to MEMBER to remove their management permissions while keeping them on the team.

Do this from the Members page by opening the member's row and changing their role. The change takes effect immediately. We send the member an email letting them know their role has changed.

The OWNER's role is locked — you can't demote the OWNER. The only way the OWNER role moves is through ownership transfer.

Removing a member

OWNERs and ADMINs can remove any MEMBER or ADMIN from the organization. From the Members page, open the member's row and choose Remove from organization.

  • The member's role row is deleted. The organization disappears from their dashboard.

  • They keep their Bonito Hub account.

  • Any pending invitations they had to this organization are also cleared.

  • The OWNER cannot be removed this way. (To replace the OWNER, use ownership transfer.)

  • You cannot remove yourself this way. To leave the organization, see → Transfer ownership or leave an organization.

We send the removed member a notification email by default.

When members leave voluntarily

Any ADMIN or MEMBER can leave the organization at any time from their own My organizations page. When they leave:

  • Their role row is deleted.

  • They no longer see the organization in their dashboard.

  • They keep their Bonito Hub account.

  • OWNERs and ADMINs see them disappear from the member list.

The OWNER cannot leave this way. They must transfer ownership first.

Common issues

"The invitation link doesn't work." The most common cause is that the recipient signed up with a different email than the one the invitation was sent to. Ask them to add the invited email as an additional verified email on their account — see → Add additional email addresses — and then click the original invitation link again. If the invitation has expired (more than 7 days), revoke it and send a fresh one.

"I invited the wrong person." Revoke the invitation from the Pending invitations list. The link is invalidated immediately.

"I want to invite someone but I'm not sure they exist on Bonito Hub yet." That's fine — you can invite anyone by email, whether or not they have an account. They'll create an account through the normal flow and then accept.

"Someone is claiming to be a member but I don't see them." Only people who have accepted their invitation appear in the members list. Check Pending invitations to see if they have an open invite.
