There are several scenarios where you might want to step away from an organization on Bonito Hub. The right path depends on your role and whether anyone else should keep the organization running.
Picking the right path
You're an OWNER and someone else should take over → Transfer ownership (then you can leave as ADMIN if you want).
You're the OWNER and the organization shouldn't exist on Bonito Hub anymore → Remove the organization.
You're an ADMIN or MEMBER and want out → Leave the organization.
Transferring ownership
Only the current OWNER can transfer ownership, and only to a member who is already an ADMIN of the organization. If the person you want to transfer to isn't an ADMIN yet, promote them first — see → Invite and manage members.
How to initiate:
Go to your organization's Members page.
Open the Transfer ownership section.
Pick the ADMIN you want to transfer to.
Optionally include a short message (up to 500 characters). This appears in the email and is helpful for context — "I'm stepping down at the end of the season, you're the right person to lead this forward".
Submit.
What happens next:
We send the target ADMIN an email with the transfer request and your message.
The transfer is pending for up to 7 days. During this time, you remain OWNER. The transfer also shows up in your Members page as a pending transfer you can cancel.
The target can accept, decline, or let the request expire.
If accepted:
Roles swap in a single transaction. The target becomes OWNER, and you become ADMIN.
You keep access to the organization with full ADMIN permissions — you don't lose access by transferring ownership.
If you want to leave the organization entirely after that, do it as ADMIN through the Leave organization action. See below.
Both of you receive confirmation emails.
If declined or expired:
You remain OWNER. Nothing changes.
You can initiate a new transfer to the same person or someone else.
Limits:
Only one pending ownership transfer per organization at a time. If you want to change the target, cancel the pending transfer first and start a new one.
The target user must already be a member of the organization, and an ADMIN.
Leaving an organization as ADMIN or MEMBER
If you're an ADMIN or MEMBER and want to leave:
Go to My organizations in your account menu, or to the organization's Members page.
Find the Leave organization action and confirm.
You're removed from the organization immediately. The organization disappears from your dashboard. You keep your Bonito Hub account.
Other members of the organization see you disappear from the member list. They aren't notified individually.
OWNERs cannot leave this way. If you're the OWNER and want out, transfer ownership first, then leave as ADMIN.
Removing the organization

Important to know
Removing an organization is not the same as deleting your account. If you want to delete your account, you must first either transfer ownership of any organizations you own or remove them. See → Delete your account.
Transferring ownership is a permanent change once accepted. There's no built-in reverse action — the new OWNER would need to initiate a fresh transfer back to you.
Members who joined your organization through invitations keep their Bonito Hub accounts after they leave. Leaving an organization is not the same as deleting their account; it just severs the membership.
